Who we're looking for

The Founding iOS AR Software Engineer will use their years of experience across design and development to consistently iterate towards our shared vision. The ideal candidate will be strongest on the engineering side with a foundational understanding of design principles and product development. They will have spent time working on cross-disciplinary, highly integrated teams.

We’re looking for someone who can quickly sift through early ideas, who uses prototypes to answer design and engineering questions, and someone who can build the required systems from scratch.

We are looking for someone who can take on significant responsibility and who is excited to build from 0→1, laying the groundwork for a deeply compelling app and company.

Responsibilities

It’s an early stage startup, so we’re all doing a bit of everything.

  • Lead and closely collaborate closely with the team to design, prototype, build, and ship a groundbreaking app – focusing on performance, scalability, maintainability, and magical experience.
  • Participate in design, product, and user research conversations, offering your unique insights.
  • Define or contribute to the definition of our product and company processes as we scale.
  • Learn quickly. Iterate deftly. Work under tight deadlines. Clearly articulate decisions.
  • Build across Apple’s devices, namely iPhone and Vision Pro. You’ll work on our camera, client-side processing, and AR playback.

Qualifications

The right candidate will meet all of the minimum qualifications and at least some of the preferred. They will be most experienced on the engineering side, with additional experience in other areas.

Minimum

  1. 3+ years of deep experience building mobile apps or games in Swift
  2. 3+ years working on a highly integrated team (product + design + development)
  3. 3+ years experience with these iOS frameworks: SwiftUI, ARKit, RealityKit, AVFoundation, Metal
  4. 3+ years experience with integrating with cloud backends such as Firebase
  5. Have shipped at least one app or platform
  6. Bachelor’s in computer science, or years of comparable experience
  7. Soft skills: empathetic, curious, driven towards action, responsive to new insights, passionate about improving HCI, excited to work in a fast-paced environment, able to work within shifting constraints as we’ll be working on the frontier, able to move focus between smallest details and big picture, continually evaluating tradeoffs as we ship

Preferred

We’re looking for someone who has at least some of these skills.

  1. Have shipped real-time networked, AR consumer apps
  2. Master’s or higher in computer science, HCI, or similar years of comparable experience
  3. Experience across the iOS stack: mobile purchases, subscriptions, and notifications, app profiling, optimization, automated testing, and Vision and CoreML frameworks
  4. Experience developing apps that use cameras, video capture, video processing and encoding – especially LIDAR, depth video
  5. Experience using or developing for AR and VR headsets (Quest, Rift, Vive, HoloLens, Magic Leap, Spectacles, etc.), especially with the Oculus Presence Platform
  6. Familiarity with any of our other stacks and languages: Unity, Firebase, Javascript, Python
  7. Experience designing, building, and optimizing shaders, especially in Unity and in Metal, especially in AR/VR contexts
  8. Strong understanding of 3D mathematics and linear algebra
  9. Experience deploying and tuning ML models, especially with 3D data and video processing, generative ML models
  10. Experience with novel 3D rendering techniques (e.g. NeRFs)

Other information

  • Location: Downtown San Jose, CA, the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area. We’re within a 20min walk from the Diridon Station. Bus and light rail stops are just outside the building.
  • Timeline: We are interviewing on a rolling basis, expecting to make our first offers in July.
  • International candidates: We do not currently sponsor work visas for international candidates. You will need to be able to work in the United States.
